As if the technological barriers were not enough, legal and legislation problems will be another obstacle to the arrival of 5G in the country🇧🇷 And not just on a federal scale, but municipalities need to be aware, with adequate antenna laws approved by their chambers. The fact, however, is that only 59 of the 5,570 Brazilian municipalities are up to date with this, for a while.

The information comes from a survey by the Antene-se Movement, created last year to discuss and encourage the adoption of this new connectivity in the country. As pointed out by the Brazilian Association of Infrastructure for Telecommunications, Abrintel, in a report on the Teletime website, the reformulation of the law on antennas is fundamental for the implementation of 5G, so that they do not run into more bureaucracy.

Among the cities considered to have updated laws are municipalities in the north of Rio de Janeiro — such as Itaperuna, São Francisco de Itabapoana, Campos dos Goytacazes, Cardoso Moreira and São João da Barra — and in the interior of São Paulo, in the so-called Circuito das Águas – with the cities of Águas de Lindoia, Amparo, Holambra, Jaguariúna, Lindoia, Monte Alegre de Sul, Pedreira, Serra Negra and Socorro.

Among them, Itaperuna and Amparo are the largest, with 100,000 and 70,000 inhabitants respectively. According to Luciano Stutz, president of Abrintel, these are some of the few places that already contemplate the infrastructure and installation needs of the new antennas.

“The examples from the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro and the Circuito da Águas region demonstrate that municipalities are becoming aware of the need to prepare themselves with a favorable environment for the implementation of infrastructure. The regional standardization of antenna laws gives more predictability to investors and legal certainty to the investment process. Abrintel supports the initiative and also helps groups of cities in this collective discussion of alignment with federal legislation”.
