Camera

First of all, it's impossible to review this device's cameras without comparing it to its older cousin, the Moto G 5G Plus, since it, unlike its predecessor, has two cameras love us🇧🇷 This version of the smartphone had two cameras removed, one of them being the depth sensor of 2MP which was on the back of the device, and the other the ultrawide of 8MP on the front.

And what does it change? The depth sensor is very useful to achieve better blur in photos with the 48MP camera and it also helps with more efficient focusing. The front ultrawide is a very situational and little used camera, but it is certainly needed when taking a group selfie.

In general, Moto G 5G has a main camera of 48MP, an ultrawide of 8MP and a macro of only 2MP.

Front camera (selfies)

Not the best. Despite the 16MP, this camera doesn't have very vibrant colors and also has considerable noise. In natural light however, it works better, with more saturation and quality.

Wide camera (default)

She has 48MP and works well, has good colors and an expected definition for a device of this size, but nothing very impressive.

Ultrawide (wide-angle) camera

Like other ultrawide devices of the same level, it does not have a good definition and loses a lot of quality overnight. Noise is recurring, especially at night.

macro camera

In short: it's a disaster. 2MP they simply are not suitable for this type of photography. None of the images are of decent quality, no matter what lighting or environment you are shooting in. All photos come out with a lot of noise and it's hard to identify what's being photographed because of the low resolution. In my opinion, this lens should be replaced by a depth sensor, which with 2MP, would be much better used.

Alternative modes and features

The smartphone also has several alternative modes for filming and photographing, such as timelapse, that shoots long durations of time, slow motion, which can be switched between 120 and 240 frames per second, panorama, that shoots a 360° image etc. You can also use helper and utility functions such as level (incline indicator), Google Lens, Gesture Photography, HDR, between others.

O night mode is available, but it should be warned that the result is not up to snuff. Photos take a significant drop in quality, and the extra lighting doesn't miraculously save any dark shots. Despite everything, the mode works well in situations that your eye sees, but a common camera would not capture the image.

videos

The smartphone also records videos in up to 4K, with 30 FPS. It is also possible to shoot in Full HD (1080p) with up to 120 FPS.

The quality of the videos is really exceptional. The camera has an optical stabilization system that makes the entire footage very smooth and fluid, without looking artificial or causing distortion.

Photos and videos at night

One detail we noticed during camera testing is that they all perform poorly when under low light. Photos and videos that are darker or with artificial lighting tend to have a lower result than other photos. This is a recurring problem that we've noticed on several other devices in the same price range.

Comparisons

One of the strengths of the Moto G 5G is its overall performance in apps, but is it still all that when compared to other devices in the same price range?

Conclusion

The Moto G 5G is a good smartphone, but its biggest problem comes when comparing it to other devices. O your cousin, O Moto G 5G Plus is simply better than him in many aspects, whether in camera, at the performance or other basic functions. When we compare the value of these devices, the difference is not very big: the Plus it came to cost an average of R$ 1,700.00 in its biggest price drop.

O Moto G 5G it has good cameras, but the lack of a depth sensor, a better quality ultrawide and a frontal with a higher resolution hurts a lot.

The macro camera basically makes no difference on the device, since most of the time you won't be able to enjoy your close-up photos due to the very low resolution and quality of the lens.

Its performance is really good, but the device has many disadvantages compared to its cousin, the Moto G 5G Plus🇧🇷 The two devices having a minimal difference in price, I don't see why giving up a great cell phone that is the Plus, by the weakened version of it, the Moto G 5G pattern.

And it is worth comparing again the Moto G 5G as Poco X3 it's the Galaxy M21s, two older, cheaper devices that offer very similar performance, if not superior in some points.

Its biggest advantage would be compatibility with the 5G service. But remember that if this isn't a priority for you, it doesn't matter much.

Summary: if you want to buy a device with performance similar to Moto G 5G, there are better and cheaper smartphones available in the market, also from 2020. If you want to buy a device with similar performance, with 5G compatibility (and you can pay more) take the Moto G 5G Plus.

The only situation where we see an advantage in acquiring a Moto G 5G it is during a historic price drop, with a very large discount. Only under these price conditions would it be worth purchasing this device.
